fairy tale love

love was always just a fairy tale
i heard all about it growing up
with a kiss goodnight
mom whispered it in my ear
dad said it with a ruffle of my hair
and grandma (my personal favorite)
said it with a cookie and some milk
i’ve heard it’s in the air
it’s even in an elevator
which is a rather common place
but it is sometimes an uncommon sight
in this world that flies by
so when the world stood still
as i watched you across the room
i saw for the first time
love better than a fairy tale

  1. Quinton, I really like this poem. It's simple, but sincere. I like that you don't use punctuation or capitalization, but really just let the raw emotions run the words. It shows how simple love really is, but in a complex sort of way... there's so many different kinds! I love the part about grandma, and how you slowly shift from familial love to a more grown up kind at the end, like you are a child who listens to fairytales and somehow ends up realizing they are more than true. Great poem!
